Before the folks at Goodby Silverstien blew it wide open with their brilliant Pictures of You TV campaign, every HP ad, website, and collateral piece was ruled by The Grid.
Usually, a simple 4x4 or 2x2 group of rounded squares, the grid did a good job of putting continuity into every HP communication. And making every HP piece look like every other HP piece.
Our solution was to "liberate the Grid", by pushing it in new-and unexpected-directions. The techniques we developed were adopted by other agencies working for HP and eventually became a worldwide standard.
